The name of a car model by Ford is given after a variety of a horse found milling in tens of thousands in the wild open American ranges.
The film starts with concerning wild horse statistics and as a part of a conservation program shows how some of the horses are periodically caught, trained, and auctioned for the use of the US departments of border security, rangers, and cops.
Interestingly the job of training the horses is assigned to the inmates of a prison in the barren lands of Nevada, as a task to be completed before the date of the auction in 12 weeks.
The incidents revolve around how a tough horse is brought to control by an inmate called Roman Coleman who names his horse as Marques.
Roman was imprisoned for 12 years for the deadly assault upon his wife in the quick of an emotional spur leaving his daughter Martha to take care of the brain-injured mother. Martha who visits the prison is eager to disconnect from her father and to move on with her life.
When we find Roman uncomfortable with both the horse in the training and with his disgruntled daughter, the movie has its improving turns. However, in an unexpected incident during the auction, Marques is misunderstood as a beast not tamed yet. The prison management decides to euthanize the Mustang. On knowing this from the chief trainer Myles, Roman quickly sets the horse free and wilfully gets arrested to stay in the prison.
Another day, as Roman reads a heartening letter of reunion from his daughter indicating her visit soon, he peeps through the window only to see Marques the Mustang waiting, looking for him from the far ranges.
• The performance of every artist is so real.
• Country music slams all along with the film.
• Roman’s emotional bonding slowly improving with the horse is Poetry.
• Roman’s daughter understanding the deep remorse of the father is a touching scene bringing the turn of events.
• Counselling to the prisoners with regard to their in-house occupation and the importance of enduring patience was neatly shown and implemented.
• The passion of Myles the chief trainer and the expert trainer Henry are impressively shown.
• The auction part is interesting.
• The confluence of warm emotions at the end is a fine solace.
• All the scenes with drugs peddled into the prison and Henry being killed are unnecessary additions to know.
The assignment to the inmates of the prison reminds the lyrics of the song ‘Working on the Highway’ by Bruce Springsteen. The horse conservation program in Nevada makes it no more a ‘God forsaken’ place, as it reminds the lyrics of the song ‘God must be a cowboy’ by Dan Seals.
Dogs are with us all the time at home. Horses have always taken us outdoor and moved us over time.
‘The Mustang’ is another good movie for horse admirers who could feel the kiss of a horse in the 96 minutes film that stays to be remembered forever.
