Any dog is already becoming a great friend to me in a matter of minutes as we gaze at each other. Kind of a dog friend I am, not seriously fascinated with cats ever.
Then later in the last few years, I should admit that I’m influenced by cat postings coming on FB. Well, it did change me to an extent. I started believing that cats can’t be as bad as I think.
Now it’s a different experience. Tom and Tabby are two wonderful Persian cats my brother Kumar has. It took months for me or rather for the cats to accept me. Slowly, very slowly, nearby, yet at a distance, I stay, then try to find the expression of joy in them. Like a typical dog’s fool, I see if they wag their tails. Unfortunately, they give no clue of any friendliness. Then a cold intimidating stare, a ‘who the hell are you kind of look, freeze for a moment, walking away when I call like they care a damn. ‘God, these cats are impossible’, I thought.
Then after a long hour when I was engrossed in a conversation with Kumar, I felt something creeping softly close to my feet. My brother said ‘Ramesh! You got them now. !’ In one jump they were near me with the same stare. Then all over me only till they wanted to stay.
Tom in his cold look, silently said …’ You don’t seem to be a cat like me, you stupid dog lover! ‘ Aren’t you?
Tabby’s looks said –Beware of Tom’s clue..”Beware of ‘me too’”.-
Cats are cozy little devils-for God’s sake. – lol
