Afghanistan’s first female civil aviation pilot flees to Bulgaria to keep flying. But, Mohades Mirzai says, “my life won’t change because of the Taliban. I will fly again.” (The Taliban is a terrorist organization banned in Russia). So now she is trying to get back into the sky.
▪️Mohades Mirzai left her native Afghanistan after the Taliban came to power. When they took over Kabul, she was already at the airport. She was preparing for an evening flight to Istanbul. Her flight never took off, and Mohades went to Kiev as a passenger. However, she was turned away as she didn’t have a visa, so she went to Bulgaria. Now her visa deadline has expired, and she’s been advised to seek asylum.
▪️A few months ago, Mohades made headlines. At 23, she co-piloted a Kam Air Boeing 737 on Afghanistan’s first flight with a female crew. Recently she was included in a list of the 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2021.
